• How long will the portrait take to complete?

Turnaround for pencil portraits is about 5-7 days, pastel portraits 7-10 days and watercolour portraits about 2 weeks. May be longer for double/tripple portraits. Towards Christmas and during other busy periods I may have a waiting list, so please check and let me know if there is a particular deadline. If a portrait is required more urgently I can usually complete it in a few days, so please ask if you need it in a hurry.

• What size will the portrait be?

Portraits sizes including the mounts are 11"x14", 12"x16" and 16"x20" Full details of sizes and prices are given in the price list. Larger portraits are only suitable if the photographs are good quality.

• What are the differences between the mediums?

Examples of the different mediums - pencil, pastel and watercolour are shown in the galleries.
Pencil portraits are drawn on off white paper and do not usually include a background.
Pastel portraits are drawn on coloured pastel paper to suit the subject and photo. They will either have no background or include a simplified background depending on the photograph. Full backgrounds can be included for a small extra charge. Pastel portraits must be framed under glass for protection.
Watercolour portraits are painted on watercolour paper and include either a simple coloured background or more detailed depending on the photograph and customers preference.

• Will my photographs be suitable?

I can work from most photographs as long as the features are clearly visible when the photo is enlarged. For a head and shoulders portrait the photo must include all of the head. Old, faded and damaged photos can be used as long as the features are clear. It it is important to choose a photograph that really looks like the subject. If the photograph looks like them, then your finished portrait will too. You are welcome to email or post your photos for me to look at before deciding to order a portait. • Can you combine separate photographs in one portrait?

Yes. Double and group portraits can be made up from more than one photo. Some photos work better together than others, so for best results send a selection indicating your preference for each person. When using separate photos I usually do a rough layout showing how the finished portrait will look for approval before going ahead.

• Can your frame the portrait?

I only frame portraits for local collection. But my portraits are finished in bevel cut mounts ready to place straight into a ready made frame if required. They will fit the standard frame sizes which are widely available in discount stores, stationers and internet shops.
