Photographs
I can work from prints or digital images. See
photo tips for more information about choosing and taking suitable photographs for portraits. Old, faded and damaged photos can be used as long as the features are clear. As I will be working entirely from your photograph without meeting the subject, it is important you choose the one that you feel best shows their character. If the photograph looks like the subject, then your finished portrait will too! Make sure the features are clearly visible, especially the eyes.
For portraits of people I prefer to work from one main photograph, as this produces the best results, but additional photographs are helpful for extra reference and to establish their character. Pet portraits can be based on one photograph or a combination of images, for example one for expression and another for colour. I might also need several photos for full or three quarter views.
All photographs will be returned, so send as many as you think might be useful. Please mark clearly the main one to be used for the portrait. If the portrait is a surprise gift and you are unable to obtain suitable photographs you might like to give a portrait gift voucher.
Gift Vouchers
To purchase a Gift Voucher, just decide on the media and number of subjects. Use the price list to calculate the cost of the voucher and send a cheque for the full amount including postage. Please give the recepients name, if you would like this included on the voucher, otherwise it will be left blank for you to fill in yourself. Full details of how to order will be included with the voucher to enable the recipient to arrange for their portrait to be painted at their convenience.
